Creative Blocks Not Allowed!

Ever have one of those days when you want to be creative, try really hard to be creative, but just can't seem to make anything work no matter what? I'm having one of those days today. I've been working like mad on the day job, and was really hoping to hit the ground running this weekend with the Fall 2012 collection. Everything is in place for me to make gorgeous things. Except...for me.

What I thought would look gorgeous came out looking chintzy. So much so that I had to step away from it to rethink. This whole collection has been like that so far. It's making me wonder if I am on the right path or not.

I may have to walk away from it and gather myself for another angle. Another idea. Another...I don't know, dammit!

Guess it's all a part of the creative process sometimes.

So, in the meantime, I'll just work on the website. I love my newfound Photoshop skills. Here's the latest banner I just put up:

At least that part of me is functioning, lol!

Wishing you and yours a great rest of the weekend (if you have any left) -J

Finding time to blog

I've been having some trouble finding time to blog over the past, um, year. You see, I got a stellar new day job and it has been monopolizing my time. And I moved from LA to Orange County. And I have revamped my life a bit to suit the not-so-new-anymore job (but it is still pretty awesome. The job that is.)

Seems to me that I need a little more balance, a little more bright 'n' shiny, a little more fun in my life! So, being the semi-type-A personality that I am (with hints of B, especially when naps are involved), I'm revamping the webpage (http://www.pop-culture-princess.com), putting together a new collection *hint, it involves upcycled textiles* and promising to do my best to start blogging and bringing new info to you, my three subscribers. Now don't get all excited at once! LOL!

Anyway, here's a sneak preview of the new website. Should be going live and completed in the next week or so. Here's hoping it works!

Thanks for your support in advance. You're gonna love the new website, the ease of use, and the fact that it has it's own shopping platform and you don't need to go through Etsy anymore. Wohoo!

Cheers -J

Life gets in the way sometimes...

Hi there! Remember me, haha? It's been a while since I've had a chance to post. Sometimes life gets in the way, and boy has that been the case lately.

Now it's time to get back to the fun of creating! I can't believe it's only a month left to my exhibit in Mission Viejo, must get cracking. On the business side, I finally sent the specs over to Michael today who is doing the graphics for the postcards that you will be receiving next month announcing the show and giving all the details. The printer is all set up and ready to go with 2-sided recycled postcards. It's somewhat unbelievable how quickly I have gone through business cards as well - have to start thinking about getting those done again!

I am excited about taking a metalworking class early next month! I've been learning so much about how to make jewelry, I suppose I should actually make some more, eh?

On the press side, I have been told that the Hollywood Chamber Magazine had a photo and small profile of Pop Culture Princess in it, am eagerly awaiting receipt so I can share it with you all.

OK, off to go broil in the 105 degree heat!

Inspiration

When does creativity "hit" you?

Creativity always hits me in one of two places: when I'm trying to fall asleep, or in the shower.

Take last night for instance...I was trying to fall asleep but couldn't because I kept getting design ideas in my head. A couple of days ago I tweaked my Etsy shop a little to better reflect "Pop Culture Princess" with new categories like Romance and Red Carpet. Well, for some reason, changing it up a little bit made me think of more ideas that fit the categories. I've been working all day on some Red Carpet bracelets that I think are going to be just gorgeous - all thanks to my not being able to get to sleep last night.

I haven't had any ideas in the shower lately though, hmmmm...need to make that happen!

Here's hoping you have a creative weekend!
